Plot

You all know this story: Girl disguises herself as a boy and enters the army, because of her sick father.
But here the story begins to divide itself from the Disney-plot.
While Tiger, a childhood friend of Mulan, helps her to disguise herself, she meets Wentai, the seventh son of the Wei king and Mulan starts to like him.
One day, she gets accused for stealing and is sentenced to death, but luckly the Rouran attack and Wentai sets her free. She kills the Rouran general and becomes commander and later general together with Wentai. As the fighting goes on Mulan gets sick of losing so many “brothers”, when Wentai is attacked by some Rouran warriors and orders her to stay and guard the supplies, she disobeys and fights alongside him. But when they return, they find the people, who were still guarding them, dead. Wentai gets angry at her and claims that the death of her ”brothers” is all her fault.
The next time the Rouran attack, she doesn’t want to fight and Wentai goes there alone. Tiger returns with his mark, saying that he’s dead. Mulan completely gets into a depression and nothing can snap her out. She doesn’t train with her regiment and doesn’t lead them into wars anymore. Tiger snaps her out of her world of the dead when he say that Wentai wanted her to become great.
She asks for forgiveness and goes back in the game. (And Wentai’s still alive) Mulan and her regiment become known all over the country.
She goes to a meeting with other generals and tells them, how they’re going to defeat the Rouran once and for all and the others agree. However none of them show up.
Mulan is deeply wounded and a sandstorm has blown away most of their supplies, but at least she’s got Wentai back.
Tigers gets captured and killed. Wentai sells himself for the regiment. Mulan goes there to save him and succeeds. And Wentai marries the Rouran princess for the sake of peace and Mulan goes home. Wentai and Mulan meets once after all this. He asks her to run away with him but she rejects. She also tells him that she can never forget him.

Conclusion

The movie was good. It was what I expected from a chinese movie- beautiful tunes and a lot of dialogues. No, seriously, the music was great. It matched so well with the film. Especially the scene when Tiger gets killed in front of Mulan’s eyes, they were singing this song where they talk about home and getting back to their families. It is so mood-fitting and gets you so sad. But I liked the other tracks as well.
Wei Zhao is a great actress but I couldn’t believe her that she plays a man. I mean, she looks so feminine. The rest of the cast did a great job.
The movie is a little bit slow. I don’t mean boring, I mean slow. It has a lot of dialogues which are slowing down the action. And the battle scenes aren’t that impressing. But the great thing about them, is the thing that you can really see Mulan view of her brothers getting murdered in the most brutal way which really helps to understand her anger and pain.
The movie is very obvious, you know what'll happen when you're halfway throught. This is also the reason why there aren many jokes here. My sister and me did some Disney jokes and love interest jokes but none of them seemed to fit in here.

So, if you like historical movies and are feminist by any chance, you will find your pleasure in this.
